Triskel Sample Project Space Residency

in 2023, riki was awarded the 2nd sample-studios cork midsummer festival award. In advance of presenting her multidisciplinary installations and pop-up performances at Cork Midsummer festival in June 2024, riki matsuda will engage in a focused residency in Triskel, exploring her materials, methodology and testing her ideas with triskel audiences.

Triskel Sample project space is a new partnership between triskel and sample-studios that will provide a visual arts project space for artist, especially emerging and mid-career artist, to test ideas and to develop new work that can be seen by the public. This offers tangible career development and audicne engagement opportunities to artists on their ‘home turf’ where they have a space space to develop new ideas, within which risk taking is possible.

Cork Midsummer Festival

Enjoy an emotional game of hide and seek while searching for the work of artist Riki Matsuda in this year's Cork Midsummer Festival.

While walking through the streets of Cork, you will pass countless posters, advertisements, and signs, hoping to catch your eye; from an ambiguous Site Notice drilled into a wall to the illegible graffiti on a traffic sign, every word is written to be seen by those willing to pause and read them. If you’re the kind of person who lingers on these leftovers, it is likely you will be able to spot the personal messages left for you by artist, Riki Matsuda.

In her three-piece project for Cork Midsummer Festival, Matsuda uses her fascination with communication to playfully discuss the humor within misunderstandings and the ways in which we stay connected.
